Research - what are the codes and conventions of the Thriller Genre

What technical/costume/symbolic/language codes does it have?
The film has a lot of scenes in the dark and this creates a very tense atmosphere throughout the film. This is a also a typical way of creating enigma within the thriller genre. The scene also has a lot of jump cuts and this makes the scenes seem very fast paced which is a typical convention of the thriller genre.
How are characters represented? Do the codes help to
enhance this? How so?
Most of the characters are presented as being fighters. This conforms because a typical element of a thriller would be quite fast paced action scenes.

How is the film marketed? How does it help to enhance the
enigma of the piece? Why enigma?

The film has a lot of jump cuts to the basement that they actually fight in and this creates enigma because you wonder where they are actually fighting.

How conventional is this product and what did it produce,
in terms of takings, at the box office.
The film has a lot of jump cuts throughout the scenes and this makes the film seem quite fast paced. The film also has a lot of fast paced seen in dark places. This creates enigma because it does not give away where they are as well as the fast pace making the scene seem quite exciting. The scene made $100.9 million.
How does it influence what you are creating?

It influences what we are creating because it has a good use of enigma and jump cuts and it is a good example of how we can use both of these techniques to create drama.

Evaluation- Part 2

1.
1.    Our original idea was for a hostage situation. However, because we were only allowed two people in shot we chose to just to do a normal conversation. If we worked together again I would have taken more time to plan it out as we had to change a few shots because they would not have suited the conversation. This would allow use to make a more effective scene and therefore a better production. I would also have finalised each role beforehand in order to prevent us from swapping mid-way through the production

2.       The production work was useful because it let us plan what we were doing and I found the storyboard the most useful because it gave us an idea of how certain shots would look and we could change it as we went along if we thought something would be more effective. It also gave us a view of what the final production piece would look like and we could therefore see what part of our production needed to be changed in order to make it more appealing.

3.       The main thing that we had to change was the scene. This is because we wanted to use three people but soon realised that without a line  for the third person this scene would not have been as effective as we had hoped it to be. We also had to change some of the camera shots because of this change.

4.       The camera cuts were smooth and the editing was okay. The only problem was that there were some inconsistencies’ in the scenes. This could have been because someone is sitting differently. However, the production was good overall. This would have not happened had we decided on who was editing at the start of our practical production.
